After a sub-par April and terrible May, Masher Peer Boom showed signs of life with a solid June and was doing more of the same in July. That being said, the last 5 games have been something else...
7/20: 3-3, 2 hr, 2 runs, 4 rbi, 1 bb
7/21: 1-3, 1 hr, 1 run, 2 rbi, 1 bb
7/22: 2-4, 2 hr, 3 runs, 3 rbi, 1 bb
7/23: 2-4, 2 hr, 2 runs, 4 rbi
7/24: 1-4, 1 hr, 2 runs, 2 rbi, 2 bb
Total: 9-18, 8 hr, 10 runs, 15 rbi, 5 bb
Ironically, this came immediately after the team decided to give him a couple days off against LHP, due to how poorly he had been performing against them thus far in 2061. So, he woke up and had almost the best 5 game stretch imaginable. He hit .500 (9-18), with 8 of those hits leaving the yard, while posting a .609 OBP over those 5 games. He had an unbelievable patient approach, drawing more walks than normal and crushing mistakes.
It was shaping up to be somewhat standard, or below average, season for Peer Boom, but all of a sudden he has volted himself into the Hank Aaron and MVP discussion very quickly. His 27 home runs and 66 RBI now lead all of FBSL in both categories. That speaks a bit to the depth of the Twins lineup, as he has been hitting near the bottom all year. They do have a couple solid OBP guys in Bonds Jr and Ledbetter hitting ahead of him, at least vsRHP.
We will see how Masher finishes out the year, but it seems safe to say that this will likely be his best 5 game stretch during 2061. Simply because, how could it possibly get better?
