Bonds Jr. Finds His Stride

Postby MINTwinsGM » Sun Nov 27, 2016 9:49 pm

Coming through the minors, Barry Bonds Jr. was heralded as the next great slugger of our time. At the time, he was the highest rated lefty slugger vsRHP in the history of the league. Scouts couldn't say enough about his plate discipline, raw power, naturally hitting ability and extra base prowess. He hasn't disappointed necessarily, but I think it's safe to say that the league keeps waiting for that breakout "wow" season. Here is what he has done so far, which is still incredibly respectable this day in age...

2058: 251/348/461/809, 15 2b, 1 3b, 25 hr, 63 runs, 83 rbi, 65 bb, 79 k
2059: 244/346/410/756, 13 2b, 5 3b, 18 hr, 63 runs, 70 rbi, 72 bb, 91 k
2060: 259/354/449/802, 14 2b, 2 3b, 23 hr, 61 runs, 75 rbi, 67 bb, 109 k
2061: 242/344/457/801, 9 2b, 2 3b, 22 hr, 55 runs, 57 rbi, 57 bb, 72 k

So, he has been a model of consistency. A rarity for a pure slugger like himself, but that still speaks to his plate discipline and pitch selection. The slight power dip in 2059 is the only reason his numbers were slightly down that year. The rest of his numbers that year were still similar to the rest of his career. Extremely solid.

It remains to be seen if he will ever truly breakout. If he does, you would figure it come over the next few years. Power ages well and he is entering his prime.

Signing off,
